What types of inspections do we carry out at Talleres Juan Lasa?
The non-destructive method is the use of non-invasive techniques to identify and characterize the quality of the welds of a material, as well as its integrity without damaging it. The methods used in Talleres Juan Lasa are Visual Inspection (VT), Penetrating liquids (PT), Magnetic Particles (MT) and ultrasonic inspection (UT).
Both the welding procedures and the welders at Talleres Juan Lasa are standardized by an authorized entity.
What is Liquid Penetrant Inspection (PT)?
Penetrating liquid inspection is the most widely used non-destructive method because it provides fast results. This method detects discontinuities on the surface of non-porous solids.
In this method it is necessary to make use of a liquid that when poured on the part to be inspected enters through the discontinuities eliminating the excess. The liquid is retained inside and with the developer is observed on the surface of the part.
What is Magnetic Particle inspection (MT)?
It is a non-destructive testing technique used for near-surface inspection of ferromagnetic materials, detecting cracks and other discontinuities. Sensitivity decreases rapidly with increasing depth.
The method is based on the attraction of a metallic powder applied on the surface towards the discontinuities in the material under the effect of a magnetic field (a joke is used for this purpose). The accumulation of this metal powder around the discontinuities will reveal the location of them.

What is Ultrasonic Inspection (UT)?
Ultrasonic testing is a method to characterize thickness, detect internal defects in a part or imperfections in a weld by applying high frequency ultrasonic waves.
It is based on the phenomenon that causes the reflection of sound waves on an object. It measures the different reflections that occur when acoustic waves encounter discontinuities in their dispersion.
A conventional Ultrasonic Inspection is performed with a handheld transducer or probe. This probe must be placed on the surface of the object to perform the measurement.

What is Visual Inspection (VT)?
The visual inspection is a non-destructive test in which, through the direct vision of the inspector or with the aid of a series of instruments (magnifying lenses, microscopes, lamps, or flashlights, measuring instruments such as calibers, micrometers, rulers, and gauges), evaluates the existence of defects on the surfaces of parts that are visually accessible.
Visual inspection allows us to determine the general integrity of a part or component, including the detection of cracks, wear, corrosion, erosion, or any physical damage on its surfaces.
